Components of the Wafer Style Butterfly Valve

How Does a Wafer Style Butterfly Valve Work?

To start a fluid flow, the handwheel is rotated in the anti-clockwise direction through a 90-degree angle. The rotation of the handle therefore causes the stem and disc to make the same rotation.

To close the valve, the handwheel is turned in the clockwise direction causing the disc to rotate and become perpendicular to the pipe. This process shuts off flow through the valve.
